The Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP) is a 501(C)(3) non-profit science and education organization founded in 1976 by Paul Kurtz, professor of philosophy at the State University of New York at Buffalo, in collaboration with Carl Sagan, Isaac Asimov, Martin Gardner and other great promoters of public science literacy.

CSICOP comprises 80 fellows and nearly 60 scientific and technical consultants. All of them are concerned about the proliferation of paranormal beliefs and junk science, and all are deeply committed to the promotion of scientific literacy in the media, the classroom and the public at large.

CSICOP provides factual information the media and the public about the results of investigations, studies and other research into paranormal phenomena and the fringes of science. It publishes its official journal, Skeptical Inquirer, six times a year. It promotes science and scientific inquiry, science education, and the use of reason in examining a range of topics from the fringes of science and culture.
