The Supreme Court Is One Vote Away From Destroying The Separation Of Church and State

Please join us for this special event in celebration of Constitution Day and the anniversary of JFK's landmark Houston speech on separation of church and state.
Right now four justices on the United States Supreme Court are prepared, for the first time in American history, to rule that every branch of government can favor believers over non believers. They need just one more vote in order to nullify 65 years of church/state separation precedent. The president who fills the next Supreme Court vacancy will be the president who determines if government can become the enforcement mechanism of religious doctrines or if government must continue to recognize non religious people as equal before the law. The outcome of this year's presidential election will thus determine if America forges ahead as a modern secular nation or becomes a theocracy.
Edward Tabash is a Constitutional Lawyer and Chair of the National Legal Committee for Americans United for Separation of Church and State, as well as the Honorary Chair of the Center for Inquiry West, and Chair of the First Amendment Task Force of the Council for Secular Humanism. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Center for Inquiry and the Council for Secular Humanism. He has filed amicus briefs arguing for the preservation of the separation of church and state with the United States Supreme Court and the California Supreme Court.
